One of my favorite Ruth books yet. Underground societies, bizarre Freudian Alice in Wonderland, missing people, and Cathbad not in a tie.

What a special pre-Christmas treat – a new Dr Ruth Galloway story! Slippers, fire, big jumper – and a cracking tale, I have had a most enjoyable weekend. Elly Griffiths does not fail to disappoint with this ninth book in the series set in Norfolk.

The mystery starts with the discovery of some bones which look suspiciously recent. Dr Ruth Galloway is called in to investigate their provenance, whilst at the same time a female rough sleeper disappears resulting in the police looking into stories of ‘The Underground’.

I don’t want to give anything away – however towards the end of the tale more time is spent on the relationships between the main characters, a welcome development for those of us who have keenly read all of the Galloway stories.

This book stands alone, you don’t have to read it in series order – but if you are new to Elly Griffiths and Ruth Galloway I would urge you to start with the first book, ‘The Crossing Places’, – just because they are so good I don’t want you to miss out!

Didn’t quite flow, the cannibalism was promised and then barely featured, the
tunnels
plot line and how they were used felt like they came out of nowhere a bit, or maybe they just felt unrealistic.
