Great story, interesting characters and learn about spiders and history. This Fred book is up there with the best of them, read and remember why Vargas books are so good.

A reread for me. Was originally 3 stars but now it's a 3.7 stars. A thriller murder mystery with spiders as suspect as at least used in 3 murders. Very interesting plot and quite unique but wasn't as thrilling and overly attached to the story. However I have been having a reading slump due to mental health so it might be the cause of me not being as invested. Still a good story though!

A good holiday read. Multiple murders over a long period, a tiny spider capable of producing deadly venom, a sadistic climate of fear in a long-gone children's home, and super-sleuth Adamsberg in charge of sorting it all out, away from the gaze of his superiors. Fred Vargas and Adamsberg are always good value, but the level of coincidence piled on coincidence in this story stretches the bounds of credibility, which is why, despite this being a highly readable yarn, I give it only a three star rating.
