Four short stories that focus on moments taking place before the events of the Nightrunners series, except for a moment between Alec and Seregil (to avoid any spoilers). To be read after Stalking darkness.

(may contain spoilers:) We finally have some erotica, and although I don't really mind the lack of it, it was a good addition. Well, I didn't care much for Korathan, and the story about Alec's parents is much more than that.
I really just wanted the bond between Alec and Seregil, and although the rest of the short story was
great, the bond bit in itself was very quickly covered. I also don't agree with the way Alec's modesty was dealt with :
he is right to feel his way, he shouldn't be dismissed or ashamed of his own feelings. I get Seregil being hurt by the fact that Alec doesn't want the people around to know and/or to see them kissing or whatsoever, he is happy to go on that journey with Alec, but that does not mean that Alec has wronged him. Seregil should have understood, or at least not put the blame on him where there really shouldn't be any. It's not Alec's fault!!!!! It just annoys me. And Seregil just pushes him and does not listen. It's a good thing it's just a cliche on modest people, otherwise it would make for a really bad relationship debut.

I liked the story with Seregil and Micum, and the bits we learn of a young Seregil. I had a hard time picturing him young and weaker, not as confident as we got to see him in the story, but it's a snippet so there's not a lot of time to explore that. Despise the lack of Alec, I liked it. I also liked the kind way Nysander looked at Seregil, it tells a great deal of their relationship. Didn't care for Korathan, again, especially the part about him being "a harsh lover".

The story about Alec's parents was one I'm very happy to be able to read. I've long wondered what happened between his conception and his birth, and the whole story was engaging. It made me realize that Alec must have been a really lonely child, too. Which is another reason why he struck along with Seregil in the first book, along with the loyalty thingy.
We know Seregil found another 'faie and was super afraid to let go of such a companion, someone that would live as old as him and that he was friend with, and that it terrified him to think that he could lose him. But Alec has been alone most of his life too, alone with his father who often went away to chase the Hazadrielfaie, so having a companion, a friend, their kindness, respect, support and love (may it be platonic or romantic) would also be of value to him. I'm just sad their relationship is not more explored in the first two books, and that it's quite taken for granted afterwards (except maybe in the fourth, which would explain why it's my favorite).

Disclaimer: I read that between 1.30 am and 3.30 am so my mind wasn't really clear lol
