There’s body shaming and fat phobia so that’s less good. I know body image in Sweden is different so I get why it’s talked about like that but I didn’t like it.
Everything also felt too neat and wrapped up within the little vignettes, like it really was a plot and not a life. Not to mention I think peoples deaths were too fast within the book.
However, it does evoke emotions about grandparents (and the queen 9/9/22) and makes you think about life and ‘who lives, who dies, who tells your story’. Definitely some poignant moments and some fun stories set during the twentieth century. But not terribly memorable in the long term. I think it’s the equivalent of a romcom, which is absolutely something I enjoy when I’m in the right mood

RIYL end-of-life epistolary novels like A Man Called Ove and When All Is Said. Several plot points similar to The Nightingale and The Stationery Shop.
