Alex and Lainey are a new favorite of mine!!
Although this was just a novella, I felt like this book was perfectly paced with the right amount of everything!
Alex never paid much attention to his best friend's little sister, despite them being friends for over 5 years. He unintentionally blocked her out, but that was until he overheard a group of guys giving her some trouble. To prevent this from going further, Alex recommends he be Lainey's fake boyfriend for the next two weeks until a big event she is holding.
This was never supposed to go any further, but Alex finds himself searching for Lainey when she isn't around and craving her presence. This is all new territory for him because he never paid much attention to relationships and focused more on hockey. With Lainey, things are easier than he expected and Alex is determined to not let that go.
Lainey was always shy and kept to herself. She found herself stuck in the shadow of her hotshot hockey player twin brother, Theo. She always felt most comfortable alone or with a book. When Alex proposes this fake dating she says yes just to get him off her back, but she didn't realize all that would come with fake dating Alex Keller. She is quickly brought out of her comfort zone but realizes she doesn't exactly hate it when she has Alex by her side.
I really loved their dynamic. Alex was so aware of Lainey and always focused on how she was feeling in every situation. I loved how easy it became for them to be together and how they slowly started to seek each other out. They really had such a fun whirlwind of a romance! Despite what they originally thought, they really did just fit together. Seeing different sides to both characters and their development was amazing!
Such a fun prequel and cannot wait to get more of Heston University Hockey!
