Julia Whelan is a new favorite of mine! 4/4.5 stars! What a sweet, beautiful story! Starts out lighthearted and then gets serious but all so well done. Makes me want to visit Oxford and Scotland for sure!

Okay, Julia Whelan, I love you and your audiobook narrations; however, this book felt underdeveloped. So many plot points and characters were introduced and then nothing came of it. I wanted to know the ins and outs of the political side of her job. What about the other Rhodes scholar? and also their relationship felt surface level and rushed. Im giving it three stars because I did love the ties to english literature and she kept me engaged with the beauty of her writing.

I enjoy Julia Whelan as a narrator and I was hoping to love her as an author, but this book wasn't it for me. It felt like it romanticized the cancer plot line, and there wasn't much to the story outside of the romance. Another ambitious woman who falls for/gives up her dreams for a man.

I’m late to this party and didn’t realize it. I really enjoyed Thank You For Listening, saw this and thought it was a new book by Julia though I now realize it actually came first. While the concept of a casual fling isn’t usually going to hit right for me and this ended up being way heavier than I expected, I did enjoy it. It is less a romance and more of Ella finding herself at Oxford, working through her own past trauma and determining what she truly wants in life. I live Julia’s writing style and though I read the hard copy it was certainly her voice narrating it to me. It is a journey, a hard journey but a really beautiful story in the end.

Content Notes: Closed door romance
