I loved this book! It was so much better than the first one I am so happy I continued reading this series. I found the first book to be a bit confusing to read and lacked some depth with world building and plot holes. BUT this book was a bit slower and allowed for more character development and world building. The cliff hanger at the end was excellent. I am so excited to see how this all wraps up.

When is Book Two ever as good, if not better than Book One? In this trilogy it is! Scales of Ice & Shadow by Emily Schneider is perfection!
Genre: YA Fantasy
Summary: Without spoiling Book One, it ends on quite the cliffhanger. Book Two does not leave you hanging for 100 pages to find out what happens. It picks up and just keeps going. Can I get an amen? At the end of book one, Kaida and Tarrin are on the run and are trying to make plans to battle and defeat Eklos. With betrayals and secrets around every corner, they have no idea who to trust and are forced to trust unexpected allies. A war is coming, humans are at risk, and the royal family has been destroyed. They are both dealing with loss, grief, budding romance and the brink of war.
Pace: Medium - Fast
This book was my favorite of the series. I wish I could articulate why, but it was just the feeling I had while reading it. I was completely immersed in this world and the magic in this one??? So flippin good. Book Two has more action and I'd even say more plot twists! Emily keeps you on your toes trying to figure out what's coming! Just when I thought she had plenty of amazing characters, she introduces us to a few more in Book Two! It's a book that pulls you into this immersive world and then she delivers beautiful character development to you! WARNING, this ends on a bigger cliffhanger than Book One! Make sure to have Book 3 ready to go, you will need it!
I recommend this series now to anyone who wants to try fantasy and have gifted this trilogy twice already!

A fast-paced sequel to Scales of Ash and Smoke. We get quite a few answers to questions that were presented in book one but are faced with even more uncertainty as new difficulties are revealed. Kaida and Tarrin are on the run for the majority of the book, with dangers or the occasional unexpected ally around every turn.
In book one, the relationship between Kaida and Tarrin went from enemies to a tentative affection for one another. In this book, we get to see their relationship and trust in one another grow. I like that their love isn't obsessive or co-dependent, but instead is born of confidence and a deep understanding of one another.
Have book three handy, because you'll be clawing for more answers when you finish this one!

Absolutely stunning. I could not put this book down when I started it, and I loved every second of it. I wish I read it faster, honestly. Emily’s writing is so good, and the characters feel so real. It was an amazing read.

Book 2 in the series follows Kaida and Tarrin on their journey to save their country and their fathers. Holy crap! The character development in this one is wonderful. Seeing the bond between Kaida and Tarrin grow is so heartwarming, this love story is V SLOW BURN and I love that! Makes it so much more realistic. Several plot twists, and man the cliff hanger! I’ve really loved supporting Emily as an indie author and following her and her process on IG. This is a beautifully done series.

The book was a medium read (315 pages). It is the same Quality as the first one, and I love it! The dust jacket has beautiful artwork.
I enjoyed this book all the way, Kaida and Tarrin are one of my favorite couples. We are introduced to new characters as well as surprised by one character in particular (not going to spoil it!). There where questions that haven’t been answered and I hope that we can get that closure in the last installment. I also wanted Kaida to flourish and be in more control of her powers. The book finishes in kind of a cliffhanger and all that time till we wait for “Scales of Sun and Storm” I’ll be thinking about how it ended!!!
