I loved all of the characters in this story. All of their flaws, all of the things that made them shine. Well done

A nice surprise.

I picked this up on a whim, in an attempt to keep my reading streak going and I was not disappointed. A reluctant hero, a determined "sidekick" and a non-human companion, is nothing knew, but wrap it in a world of political upheaval, dead/hidden gods, and Godkillers, and you've got somthing pretty freakin sweet.

I’m so happy to be done with this. The pacing wasn’t bad and the writing wasn’t particularly bad either, but something about it made it a chore to read. When I got to the halfway point I thought things would really pick up, but it seems as if the author was so excited for the next chapters that characterization went out the door. Some things the characters would say and/or do felt…wrong - not out of character, just wrong. I also feel like the different POVs were unnecessary and prohibited the book from being better bc the changes felt abrupt, but also made no difference in how the story was being told/read. I was really looking forward to this book but unfortunately, I don’t like it enough to recommend it to people. Again, it wasn’t particularly bad, I just didn’t have the best time reading it. And honestly, it ends on a cliffhanger but I have no intention to read the sequel. The covers of this one and the sequel are GORGEOUS though and I really am bummed I didn’t like the book more.

I couldn’t bring myself to care about the characters and it was a slug to get through for me. I’ll try again in the future
