I would give this book six stars if that were possible. A fun little reference book with just the right amount of text and cute illustrations, to boot. I've learned a lot. For such a small book it packs a wallop with practical solutions and encouragement. It's not limited to gardening, either - yards, wildlife, trees, and paths of pavers also receive attention.

This little how to book introduces the new gardener to a variety of ideas and topics that new gardener might want to do. I originally picked this book up because I thought it might help explain an issue with one of my garden patches and it did (I might have a pH issue or I might have a dirt issue). It also introduced me to propagation, garden ideas (cottage seems to be the way I want to go), and more. If you've tried gardening by the seat of your pants and don't want to read much on the topic, this is a good starter book. The only downside is that this is written for a UK audience ("car boot sales" as an option to get plants? Huh?). Overall, give this to someone who is not a huge fan of reading but might need a little help with their garden.
