I spent the majority of this book not sure what was going on and at points, at bit bored. But, I'm glad I stuck with it! Although I had an idea of what the twist was, I didn't know the full extent and it made for an interesting conclusion. My first Catriona Ward and I am intrigued to read more from her.

Full transparency, I find it difficult to give a proper ‘review’, bc this is truly a book you should go into blind (Although I do recommend checking trigger warnings). Abstract’ish, non spoiler impressions? Unexpected everything! A lovely descent in, and out of madness. And there’s a cat! So a successful psychological horror/thriller/something between the two as far as item concerned. Well written (really lovely writing), oddly satisfying ending, but also- that feeling you get after you read one of those books is…😱🤯🤪 well, my brain Is still in recovery. However, I found this book to be deliciously well executed. Totally recommend for those moments you need your brain turned inside out for the sake of literature and the joy of actual unpredictability.

One of those books I wish I could forget and read again. I love the unreliable narrators and the twists and turns so much.
