Coven is a YA/Coming of Age story about a witch who grew up away from her coven and is forced to return when tragedy strikes. This book does a great job of zeroing in on what it's like to be in the middle of tragedy, of familial illness or death, or even loss of friendship because you moved. It doesn't matter what the Guidance Counselor is trying to say to you, nothing can compare with how immediate that pain is.

Emsy and Ben come up with a harebrained scheme to set both of their lives back on the paths that they want and it doesn't go according to plan exactly. I think that Dugan does a great job of bringing the reader into the experience of what it would be like to be a teenager with elemental firestarter powers, in a new town, where everyone knows more than you, and you're fighting with your girlfriend.

I would have liked more plot development and fleshing out the antagonist characters but overall I really enjoyed this graphic novel and recommend it to anyone who wants something a little bit witchy
We are dropped immediately into the action of this story and when you're reading, it's hard to put it down.

I liked this. The characters and their relationships were messy— which I appreciate. There were a lot of things left open and that kind of left me with mixed feelings about the book. It didn’t feel done. I read the last page and literally went “where’s the rest of it?”

I wish this was a series. I think this is a good jumping off point for a 4-5 novel series.

Read for the SDG Library Readers Advisory Book Club - October 2022, Spooky Reads

I liked this story, but I did find that I was confused at some parts. The characters are well designed and they actually play important roles. Also the small suspense mystery with the twist at the end.... :D
