This was a solid thriller. First time reading a book by this author. This book has been on book lists for a while and since I found it cheap at a book sale I thought I'd dig into this, and The Woman in Cabin 10 (which I will review as well).

I liked that it was a very compact tale that had a small cast of characters, a murder, and a 'who dunnit' angle. I kind of figured out the murderer early on, but the lead up was wild and there was a lot of things going on in the story - pieces to the puzzle - to find out why they did what they did.

It's not a bad read, just rather bland at times. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a good beach read or something to scratch at that thriller itch, this would be a choice.

3.5 stars...
Definitely an entertaining read, but the storyline was fairly predictable. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Ware's buildup of irritating, unlikeable characters, and her writing was vivid. As I read this book, it almost felt like I was watching a dramatic, spooky, Netflix thriller. I knew where it was going, but had a good time regardless.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware is my FIRST thriller and I completed it in just 2 days. I'll try my best to review it without spoilers in case you haven't read it yet.

While the book starts pretty slow, as the story progresses you get more information from the future Nora as she recalls her memories of a tragic night. I thought the way the story was told was different since it added more mystery as you tried to figure out what happened for her to end up like this. I guessed the ending fairly early but I enjoyed the ride. I gave it 4 stars because I felt that more suspicion could have been placed on other characters to add more of the 'who done it' feel that I thought I was getting into. The other characters could have been fleshed out more or left out completely since one left only a few chapters in and wasn't brought up again. There were a few things that were left open and didn't get closure as the book ended. It is still an easy read when you want something entertaining and a cozy mystery/thriller.

Nora wakes up in a hospital bed and is confused as to how she ended up there, and why she is so badly bruised. Then it starts coming back to her: she was invited to her friend Clare’s hen party (what the British call a bachelorette party). The thing is, she hasn’t seen Clare in ten years, and wonders why she was even invited. The book gets even more suspenseful when Nora finds out that Clare’s fiance is murdered and she’s a suspect. This book was hard to put down!
