Buhle comes across as pretty green in the first 3/4 of the book. Hunter Biden screams red flags from the minute she describes their first meeting, and I never fully understood their chemistry. This woman clings to a man who at first seems like a one-dimensional human being, and then morphs into multiple personalities, lying, abusive POS. I also felt like Buhle overemphasized the degree to which she was removed from the family finances; I began to think she was using the book to cover her tracks and claim complete ignorance, should any further messy finances related to Hunter come to light. Either that or Buhle truly leaned into the role of an entirely oblivious housewife, which I found difficult to comprehend.
That said, I was sucked into her storytelling - it was a quick read for me. The structure of the book is tight, exactly what the title tells you to expect: the before, during, and after of a marriage filled with addiction, followed by healing. She grows, marvelously. And good on her for her. Woman went through hell many times over with that man.

Very well written. Kathleen has survived and thrived through so much. It was a pleasure to read her story.

Wow, basically what a POS Hunter Biden is... Also the second half of this book through the addiction, cheating, gaslighting, health scares... very depressing and possibly triggering for anyone suffering. Kind of wanted a post script on the disasters Hunter was getting into after they divorced though!
