I’m going to be honest, as someone struggling with mental health as well, I was terrified that this book will trigger me so badly.. but it didn’t! it proved that i’m not alone, we are not alone!
The Story of Charlie Davis is heartbreaking, moving but mostly beautiful! I was captured by this story and i’m deeply touched! In a way i feel heard! Thank you Kathleen Glasgow!

Yet i wouldn’t recommend it, if you’re actually struggling rn and are scared it’s gonna trigger you! Get help first! You’re loved <3

Good read overall! I liked the fact that this was about Charlie’s journey after her hospital stay, rather than leading up to, and acting like everything is fixed once there. This is not a linear recovery journey and she definitely makes some bad choices along the way. There isn’t any explicit talk about sh (ie. doesn’t tell you how) but definitely lots of talk about tools, scars and urges/thoughts/ideation of sh, so you need to be in a good place to read this.

Such an eye opening plot that made me realise how some people can really suffer in their lives at a point the don’t even have a place to live when none of their family members wills to help them . My heart is hurting with them . And let’s don’t wonder how people become homeless

It was a roller coaster. I’m sad to say that some characters I liked did seem to end up as kinda the bad guys and I was really hoping they wouldn’t. When I first picked up this book I thought this would be a sad book all the way through but it has proved me wrong. Despite the main theme being about mental illness it’s still joyful at times and it helped lighten the mood(?). I really enjoyed it and it was interesting to read too. Also I made a playlist of all existing songs that they mention. So here you go:

Star -Belly
Nervous breakdown - Black Flag
Is it really so strange? - the smiths
Baby, let me follow you down - Bob Dylan
The whole Astral Weeks album by Van Morrison
T.B. Sheets - Van Morrison
The whole Nashville Skyline album by Bob Dylan
You’re the one that I want - Grease
Tangled up in blue - Bob Dylan
Needle in the hay - Elliott Smith
Christmas in prison - John Prine

I had to give this book five stars. Kathleen Glasgow’s writing perfectly created a picture in my head of everything- the hospital, true grit, charlie’s room. This book left me feeling quite empty.
