The book got great reviews, I was in the market for a new mystery series but was very disappointed. The writing style was OK, but page after page of history on the main character, like 100 or so pages, or so it seemed to me. Was more like a stand alone novel about a man and his estranged father than the beginning of a mystery series.

Such a fun read! Loved the Maine setting as a Mainer myself. I will be checking out the next book for sure.

A very enjoyable, fast paced murder mystery in Northern Maine. Locals will enjoy the familiar references. This is a good summer read.

Mike Bowditch goes off the deep end trying to help prove his fathers (Jack) innocence of two murders. One of the deceased is a cop and Mike is afraid that the police will be trigger happy on the manhunt to find Jack. Jack is known as a violent, antisocial, backwoods, hunter who knows how to survive in the wild.
I found this to be a wild ride that compelled me to keep reading, even at the end of the book, I didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to get into book two and I just hope that it is as much fun as The Poacher’s Son was.
