I found both stories compelling - Krouse's telling of the rape victims and her difficult conversations with them as well as the rapists was hard to listen to and even harder to understand - to wrap my head around colleges/institutions/any organization or program that condones and even encourages that abusive behavior. With each of her successes, I felt thrilled along with her.
Her own abuse as a young child was equally difficult but the harder one to absorb was the absolute nightmare of her relationship (or lack thereof) with her mom. Her mom didn't love her, apparently never loved her, and the lack of that relationship and choosing the abuser over her own daughter was really hard to listen to. Clearly Krouse felt the need to share her own abusive situation though it didn't always connect to or relate to the rape story. However, it did help explain her dogged determination to help, to ease these young women's hurts.
A disturbing but well written book - just be aware of the topics if those are triggers for you.
