I wanted to read this book because I absolutely enjoyed the first five books in this series. This book is a whole story with a beginning and an ending. However, there are a lot of refences to the first couple of books in this series. So, I would recommend reading them first.

This book still follows Alex Cross, who is a senior Washington DC homicide detective. There has been a series of meticulously planned bank robberies ends in murder, and Alex is on the case. He is torn between dedication to his job and commitment to his family, Alex cannot ignore the case, despite the risks he knows will come with hunting down a killer and the heart-breaking cost.

My favourite chapters are the ones where Alex Cross kicks some bad guy's ass. I love how he takes them down and the fact that his emotional state is also descripted in those chapters. This book seemed to display it very well and I loved it. This book also ends with questions I would like answers to which makes me want to read the next book. I love the different points of views throughout the book, it made the book interesting and getting to know the victims and the killers and to know what they are thinking. I love Sampson and Alex’s relationship and how sassy Sampson is. I missed Sampson in this book, it was all very Alex based with Sampson showing up for a few chapters. I want a man like Sampson in my life and I swear if anything happens to him, I am going to scream. I loved seeing more of Cross family in general with Jannie and Damon growing up and understand their father’s job. I also wanted to hug both of the children in this book which what happened to Jannie. The only thing that I would say that is a weakness, for me personally, is the short chapters. I just prefer bigger chapters. However, in this book, it did fit well with James Patterson’s writing style where it usually doesn’t work for me. I was hooked that after a while the short chapters didn’t both me as they usually would with other authors.

I really enjoyed this book and managed to finish it quite quickly. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and to see who Alex is going to be hunting next. I gave this book 4 stars because I enjoyed the storyline and would recommend it to anyone who a fan of Chris Carter and tv shows like Law and Order and Criminal Minds.
