This book was gorgeously written. I marked so many quotes and passages for the writing alone. I thought that was obviously the strongest part of the book. It was a very quick read because of how short it is, but it was also quite sad, which made it take longer. Not only that, but I wanted to savor the writing, so I allowed myself to take more time with it. The story was amazing as well. I think my main issue with this book is a bit of a disconnect between myself and the characters. I didn't feel for them to the extent that I was hoping to, however I did enjoy reading and learning about them. I honestly couldn't tell you why I struggled to connect with them. I've been in a reading slump for almost the entire year, so that might have something to do with it. However, besides that, I enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it!

This passion that can’t be talked about, that has to be concealed, gives way to the terrible question: ‘If it isn’t talked about, how can one know it really exists?’
A mesmerizing, otherworldly portrayal of the queer experience. Its last page will stay with me for the rest of my life. A story that makes me embrace my own queerness and feel grateful that I have so much love within me.

similar vibes to Édouard Louis + Annie Ernaux + Luca Guadagnino … all of whom I like. very sad and economically depressed French countryside vibes + a coming of age love story that’s doomed to fail — what’s not to love???
