I really like Darren Charlton's writing and find it easy to picture scenes. However...
Spoiler
I felt frustrated at the characters in this book regarding the ongoing argument throughout - fully sided with Peter and don't think he should've been the one to apologise at all! Also didn't really understand the meaning or significance behind the windows of the town buildings being smashed from the inside towards the end - felt like I missed something there.slprincess's review against another edition

This was a challenging and frustrating read, and character decisions at times were maddening…that being said I really loved the message of making more of your life and loving even through doubt.
The end bit was a little preachy and felt like the message changed from making more of your life and loving each other to the dangers of modernity which honestly was kind of a bummer, cause if it had kept up where it was going it possibly could have been my favorite book of the month.
I still really enjoyed the book and the main characters despite their flaws were very lovable and I can see myself re-reading the books to revisit them.

Well written but confusing towards the end. Also came off a bit fatphobic. There's two plus sized characters and they make it a point of mentioning their size pretty much every time they are brought up, with characters joking about being squashed and having their bones broken in their hug and stuff like that. Lost half a star for that. And the ending was vague and confusing. The writing too flowery to actually explain what the fuck was going on which left me with a sense of confusion and ruined my closure.
Graphic: Child death and Murder
Moderate: Xenophobia, Animal death, Gaslighting, Genocide, and Violence
Minor: Grief, Suicide, Trafficking, Police brutality, Blood, Toxic friendship, Deportation, Classism, Body shaming, Slavery, Fatphobia, and Drug use
