I could not finish this book. I tried, so damn hard. The writing was awful. I found myself constantly editing it in my head, and I’m not a literary snob by any means. They seemed simple, something a teenager might write. The characters acted in ways that was just silly. Going to the beach with your boss you’ve known for a bit but actually have no relationship with? And not thinking anything of it? Come on now. Also sassy Black friend for diversity points? No thank you, that’s just lazy. I tried to just to push through it but I found myself skimming the page and jumping over paragraphs.
