Even though this came recommended, I still have a hard time with short stories. Some of these I liked and others I didn't. I liked the writing style though, much better than Catcher in the Rye.

This is an exceptional collection of salinger's work. Although not every piece is a masterpiece (personally, neither De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period or For Esmé - With Love And Squalor do much for me).

Salinger has a unique ability to describe the physical appearance of people and places in an immediately accessible way. These stories range from being cerebral to poignant to silly. The thing that almost every story in this collection shares with the others is that they terminate with unexpected, beautiful twists.
