I believe I saw this as an ad on FB, honestly. Usually I don’t look further into books that are advertised to me, but this one had a picture of a dude with long hair and pretty eyes - and I’m a SUCKER for that. (*stares at my husband*)

This book was an AMAZING palate cleanser from what I usually read.

Small town hallmark vibes - if hallmark was about 9000% spicier. Good thing Niko is a firefighter because

The first 20% were super interesting and addictive but at 50% when the father is involved oh God it's a bit too Hallmark-y for me

i can't lie, the writing of this book was just so painful to get through haha. the worst thing i've read on kindle unlimited so far.

i'm never a massive fan of best friends to lovers anyway ... i like a bit more angst. but the small town, big family dynamic is one of my favourites. i've read so many series where we just slowly work through all of the siblings, pairing them up with people in the town. and here we've got a ready made stash of firemen lol.

i will continue reading these because they're easy reading and keep me somewhat entertained.

Besties to lovers: this was a great read. Nothing too exciting but it makes me so keen to read the rest of the sisters books!

I have seen so many good reviews and recommendations for Laura Pavlov, so I treated myself to starting Always Mine on a rare day off where I could become immersed.

But I struggled.

Maybe it is me, I prefer grit and angst in my romance novels, though I do like the 'small town' books too. But this one was so tame. The main obstacle was over by 50%, and the last half was essentially all just back and forth for Niko and then a bit about his Dad, which was dull and obvious from the start.

I couldn't get my head around the size of the town, which seemed to have enormous fires daily, but was small enough that everyone knew everyone else.

I couldn't picture Niko or Vivian clearly at all. In fact, I can't even remember any of the characters being physically described.

I couldn't keep track of all five sisters, and I felt like a couple should have been selected to star in this book as needed by the plot and the others mentioned but left out. Especially when there were a lot of firefighter names, townspeople names, and other subplot names to keep track of, too.

Everyone seemed to walk about hissing. I searched in the end, and in this 300-odd page book, people "hiss" 35 times. Once I'd noticed it, it really started to bug me. Sometimes, they hissed, and it wasn't even a sentence or situation where hissing was necessary.
In fact, in one chapter, different characters hissed 3 times.

I also didn't feel any chemistry or connection between Niko and Vivi. It felt like I was being told what good friends they were but never seeing it. Even the sex was a bit odd. It was described but not really described, and then they'd just be all. Phew, wasn't that great! And I'm sitting here thinking, wait was it?!

I also found the sister, Jada, and an awkwardly written character. One minute, she was flaky and irresponsible, and then one person had a bit of a go, and suddenly, she turned it around. Yet she still kept up this fake naive. Oh, I don't think Dad is too bad pretence.

I managed to pull myself through to about 70%, but I had massively lost interest, so I started scanning through the rest of the book.

I'm not sure if I will now try another by the author. I think because I'd seen so many good reviews, I had built up high expectations, and now I feel I've got trust issues a la Niko.

Ya no podía con el libro. Habían muchas circunstancias que me daban mucho cringe así que decidí no seguirlo porque no lo estaba disfrutando lo cual es una pena porque estaba muy emocionada de leer a Laura pero ya no me quedaron ganas.
