I went into this with high hopes and expectations. So far everyone I've spoken with has said this series is epic. This is a book I will need to read again before moving onto the next volume. The first few chapters were confusing, and it didn't really leave me dying to read the next volume.

EDIT: I bumped this up to five stars after a re-read. I originally had this at 4 stars because I had trouble following the story, but it turns out this sucker is not meant to be speed-read at Barnes and Noble.

I started flipping through this at a bookstore and ended up reading the whole thing. East of West is totally engrossing, partly because of how confusing it is. I felt like things were just falling into place by the end.

The story and art are a fun mash up of western, science fiction, alternate history, and apocalypse. It's pretty violent, so not for the faint of heart.

I'm curious to see how the rest of the series goes. I may be looking for a complete volume soon

Very interesting book. I like the plot so far and it's keeping me interested. The characters are developed well. The Artwork is awesome. I look forward to reading more.

Hickman's Manhattan Projects is a lot better than this, which relies on a lot of tired tropes: the character out for revenge because of wrongs done to his family, random stuff from the Bible, evil group of powerful men trying to bring on the apocalypse, etc. But it's alright. There are some cool concepts and the art's pretty good, so it's worth checking out if you're into Wild West-y Clint Eastwood-y type stuff.

Violent, gross. Not into it.

Glad I only paid $1 for this issue. Too "Western"y and too violent for my taste. And… while it's possible that it may develop into something I would enjoy reading, I don't expect it will (and it would take a while to get there from where it has started, even if it was going there).

wasn't really grabbed by the story. setup was heavily in world, no character development to hold onto at the outset

Sci-fi post apocalyptic/end of days western with death in a cowboy hat. I am so there. And I now need the other volumes...
