I can't decide. Tried too hard? Didn't try hard enough? I tried to explain this plot to Anthony and we realized it was just so big. And yet ... anyway, not my favorite.

This will probably be one of my more basic reviews, but the message should definitely still get across.

1) This book is gay in the most wonderful is ways and I absolutely love that.
2) Magical drag queens.
3) Kane, our MC, is extremely relatable despite the bullshit he's been through.
4) A villain who is TOP TIER material.
5) Side characters you actually like.
6) Wonderful world building that makes you never want to leave the comfort of your reading spot.
7) Vivid imagery, phantasmagoric, and just very creative descriptions and writing.
8) Lovely underlying meaning of finding yourself and connecting with others.

My issues:
1) Kane makes some shitty decisions, or some random actions against others, at times. It seems like it's used to make conflict, but there's usually no point to it.
2) While i liked the side cast, some of them could really use more fleshing out.
3) The magic system could've been explained a bit better. You understand it for the most part to ignore the issues, but they definitely exist.

My opinion:
I think this is gonna resonate with a lot of readers! Kane is a very relatable character, as are many of the side characters. I'm sure that this book will find its audience. Some people will love it to pieces, and others may find it meh. I don't think this is a book many will hate though, so if you aren't sure I'd still give it a shot! For me, I really liked it, but I definitely didn't love it. It was a fun book with some of the most beautiful writing I've seen. This is a must buy for me, despite me having issues with the book. If you're looking for a VERY queer urban fantasy novel, this one is such a good bet. I look forward to whatever else this author writes!

I found this book enticing and a fast read. Although, I wasn’t always sold on the different worlds within the Reveries, I enjoyed trying to put myself in them.

Despite an interesting premise, I still had very low expectations for this book. It would have been very easy for this to be campy to the point of being nonsensical, or on the other hand, make it so serious that all the fun is drained away and it becomes tedious... instead, there was a nice balance between humor and fun and more touching moments.

I don't want to give anything away, so I won't go into the plot much. All I'll say is that the villain is basically:

If that doesn't make you want to read this book, then chances are you probably wouldn't like it anyways.

As an aside: I hope that whatever the author writes next is better edited/proofread... Reading casually, there were more than 10 glaring errors that would have been picked up by even a simple grammar software, like "Ursula's was" or "dual" instead of the intended "duel".

I read this book as it was one of the everyone read it via overdrive books. It started out okay but shortly after midway it almost became a DNF. All I can say after that point was meh and wtf. I couldn’t tell you what happened to send me whirling into my own reverie of total and complete confusion. One minute I was chugging along the next I didn’t know who I was or what just happened in the last chapter. I finished grudgingly, but happily as it was over.

Extremely unlikable protagonist. Skimmed the rest and he only gets marginally better.

Such a beautiful idea with cute romance, action, friendship and a good pace with great characters.
