A beautifully written, heartbreaking, but adventurous and entertaining read. But I felt there were a lot of things that didn't make sense, and while the magic was cool it always felt strange when it came into play. And Gideon's motivations made no sense to me: he is an extremely flat villain. I really enjoyed the entertainment value and the quality of the writing. But I wish the magic aspect would have been more subtle, because the extravagant use of it made the parts when it wasn't used make less sense. And character motivations didn't always make sense either.

Overall a fun read.

DNF @ 56%. I'm sorry but this is hella boring. At about the halfway mark the MC is a nurse in the same time period as--I assume but it's not revealed yet--Jack the Ripper and it's just the most boring and overdone story with no originality.

The MC is supposed to be a witch who is somehow immortal (you find this out right away) and that's cool but the way she tells her story and attempts to blend it into present day is incredibly uneventful.

I hadn't read a witchy book since The Witching Hour by Anne Rice (which was brilliant and deserves a reread!) so when The Witch's Daughter was recommended to me by an Instagram friend I was there! I'm so happy to be delving back into the fantasy world of witches, warlocks, elves, and faeries, as well as other beings and monsters.

The Witch's Daughter is told in diary format and set in a few different centuries. I enjoyed the storyline and the female protagonist is a very strong and likeable character. I shall definitely be reading more of Paula Brackston books
