The tone of this book is just off. There’s an interesting story going on here - an epidemic amongst children in Northern Ireland during the early 90s set against the backdrop of a religiously fraught community and there’s ghosts. But it uses its tell-don’t-show attitude to be funny in one breath and then emotional in the other, and it just doesn’t work.

A surprise 5 star book! I think the Northern Ireland setting during the 90s added a really unique voice to the story.
