Okay his was a sweet one (sweet in relationship. There’s still a little spice). Good length. Good characters. At times, the dialogue was a bit corny, but it was still cute.

Where was the conflict? H swears he’ll never marry again but immediately seems fine with have to marry the h - he is described as angry or enraged but then the dialogue makes him sound totally fine. There are plenty of opportunities for some angst or miscommunication, but the author doesn’t take them. I’ve read a couple others by this author and didn’t mind them, but this one is a hard pass.

Technically this premise is a list of my favorite tropes and the author is signaling my (modern) values (good) but I still need my exposition to show and not tell (bad). I want my historical characters to be revisionist avant-garde, but I want to spend some time on their motivations so I can suspend my disbelief. Maybe I’ll try again, I think this just sounded so perfect to my taste that my expectations got away from me.

I swear I have a type with these types of books. I am literally always fishing for the grumpy x sunshine trope but it's more of grumpy who underestimates sunshine and then the sunshine being this serious, responsible and caring person and he falling in love with her.

Yeah, that's how I would describe it my only problem with this is that they didn't enough to fall in love that fast. Like they is so little angst for this type of situation where yk he vows to never fall in love again, then he should feel a least a bit tortured about how he feels but yeah that aspect was a bit lacking.

Regardless I think this book caters to a different type of audience, this book is more about the fantasy of marrying rich. I think it's more about the satisfaction we as the reader get when Augusta and her sisters who grew up poor get to enjoy having pretty things for the first time and having Adam enjoy giving them this life and having him enjoy seeing them get taken care of.
And I personally like that fantasy and this book delivers that perfectly.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I have to say (and I do hate to say this!) but some of Augusta’s (the h) thinking was very annoying and kind of repetitive, it was like we moved past something but then she’d regress to the dumb idea again. Really they were well matched because Adam was worse with his idiotic ideas but again they got there in the end 🤷‍♀️ It was a tad annoying but with a loud sigh I was able to get over that and enjoy the story. Dedicated h/H combo and very supportive of each other 🙌🏻 And I got my prerequisited HEA so yay! I would have enjoyed a pregnancy and birth and happy with baby and marriage epilogue but alas I did not.
Part of a series and the second is out so off I go to the next!
