I have conflicting feelings about this book - in terms of the emotions this book made me feel, I think it was a solid 5, especially as it was the first thriller I’ve read that I would consider had a horror element to it. If you want to be scared when you read, this a good choice! However, looking at the bones of the actual plot, I have to say that certain anchors that the book relies upon you believing just weren’t that believable (upon reflection). It’s a bit slow to start, but once you’re in it, you’re hooked.
The story concept is so intriguing, I love anything that deals withmale violence towards women, the patriarchy, and misogyny and I think this book depicted it in a way that I haven’t seen elsewhere.
Peter Swanson is fast becoming a favourite author!

Abigail met an extremely rich man, fell in love, and got married...kind of. On her honeymoon Abigail has a one night stand (really in love), but then decides she really does love him. She continues with the marriage because he's super rich she loves him.
She is relaxing and enjoying her reclusive honeymoon, when she sees him. She is so caught up in his presence that she doesn't notice the strangeness of the island around her.

I love Swanson’s writing, but the pacing of the book was a bit weird.
I found it hard to get into and keep interested.
I liked the ideas.
