This book was definitely a wild ride. It was very fast paced, and the atmosphere Swanson created definitely gave off creepy fall vibes. I’ve never read a thriller quite like this. It was dark, full of lies & secrets, and a somewhat satisfying ending. I did figure out part of the twist/plot about half way through, but I still enjoyed the book and there were things I definitely didn’t guess! Although this isn’t the BEST thriller out there, I still think it was good and definitely kept me on my toes and made me a little anxious at times (in a good way!), I needed to know what happened, and that’s all you can really ask when reading a thriller! Very entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat.

This was one book I was excited to read, the premise was interesting the setting seemed beautiful. While I enjoyed this book and found it quite good at times, I couldn’t help but find a couple problems along the way.

The story about a newlywed couple spending their honeymoon on a gorgeous island seemed ripe with possibilities that a thriller novel could do. Some parts of the plot I thoroughly enjoyed while others just didn’t fall through like they should have. I did keep me on the edge of my seat the entire time I read it.

The writing was very good and the pacing at times kept my heart racing and my mind spinning at the things that could happen and the misfortunes that could occur.

Abigail, I just couldn’t like too much. Some parts of her I admired but others were just not really that good. For example her sexual history, to me at times it felt like she was proud of her failures with men and she kind felt like a bit of a narcissist. Throughout the story she made some really stupid and not very smart decisions. I would have thought she learned from her years of watching horror movies and applied them to her current situation.

Some parts I wished were explained more and elaborated in more detail then what we got. Other parts I did really enjoy and kept me interested in wanting to know more.

In conclusion, this book was a fifty fifty for me personally. While some parts like the horror and the setting I really enjoyed but the main character and the ending fell flat to me. I did enjoy my time with this book and did not regret reading this nail biting thriller of a story.

Male voices of the audiobook weren’t great and the third person narrative was strange since the story was all from Abigail’s point of view. Pretty predictable storyline but relatively fast paced, would recommend reading in one go. Overall felt like an unfinished first draft, lots of potential but nothing was fully connected  and fleshed out.

 Yeah, no.
Maybe I shouldn't read books about marriages, I really don't enjoy them. :D The beginning was so boring. Telling a stranger everything about your past relationships during your bachelorett party (including highschool and family details completely irrelevant to the plot)? And then cheating with him on your fiance? And then just all the red flags, when the fiance/husband became totally controlling? But the book gets bonus points for pointing out that mabay she wasn't questioning her husbands creepy behavious because he was rich.
There was almost nothing surprising about the plot, you could see every twist coming ... basically from the beginning. The most surprising part was that action sequence at the end that reminded me a lot of the Tomb Raider parts I hate to play. I enjoyed that but it was pretty convenient to learn about all those hidden skills of the protagonist the second she needed them.
