The book tells the story of Beth Bailey who was orphaned at 9. She is fortunate enough to be taken in by the Groves family. She gets surrogate parents in Richard and Sylvia Groves, a lifelong best friend, Rosie, and her first crush on Rosie’s big brother, Mark. The book picks up when Beth is attending Mark’s wedding reception. From there we follow Beth through five years in which Beth falls in love with a divorced, father of two girls, then realizes that she wants her own child more than someone else’s?

The part of this book that appealed to me were the first and last year. The middle years just sort of merged into a blur. Except for the main characters, there really wasn’t much to like or care about with the secondary characters. The writing was pleasant and the plot line had some humorous moments but not enough to make up for the slow spots. The best part of the book is the relationship between Beth’s adopted parents and their children. Readers who enjoy Christmas romance might enjoy this one.
