This novel contains two tropes that aren't necessarily my favorites when it comes to romance. For one, it plays on instant attraction and secondly, it leans heavy into the spice writing. However, I think Lisa Kleypas tackled both really well and delivered a fun romance story to read! The storytelling in this book is well done, and is interlaced with a lot of conflict to keep you engaged from start to finish. I love that the author gives you a reason to become invested in all the characters in this book, which is why I am keen on reading the other two books in this little series.
My only qualm with the story is in regards to the descriptive writing. I just felt like the use of "masculine" and "feminine" to describe everything was a bit much.
This was just the book I needed to give my mind some breathing room - this novel falls under the category of books that I consider great being adapted into a tv show or movie. If you're looking for a historical romance that gives you Downtown Abbey with a sprinkle of Peaky Blinders, then I think you might like this!
