sierra simone’s the chasing of eleanor vane: beautifully written, but i felt like it lacked something to really make me love it. felt different than the rest of the short stories because of the gothic setting and the hidden sex society that was never truly explored. fun though 3.25/5
nicola davidson’s duke for hire: this is one of the authors i’ve read before and she thrives off of historical kink. a lot lighter that her fallen series, with fairytale-like settings, godmothers, and escapes. and a sex contract. 3.25/5
eva leigh’s an education in pleasure: again, this is another author i’ve read before. and again, can’t say that i’m blown away. i just think it’s something about leigh’s writing that i don’t 100% vibe with that keeps me from enjoying it. however, i do like an inexperienced hero and sex lessons tropes, so that bumped it up a little bit. 3.25/5
adriana herrera’s the duke makes me feel: in a romance short story collection that borders on erotica, this feels like the tamest. it’s also the only story that doesn’t have a more than 10 year age gap. wasn’t really vibing with the romance, and i think it was because this story deserved like 150 more pages of development. loved marena and i’m looking forward to any historical full-length romance novels that herrera might publish in the future. they are bound to be filled with more afro-latinas in europe and i can’t wait. 3/5
joanna shupe’s my dirty duke: this was the first one i read and by far the one i preferred the most. and again, shupe is an author i’ve read before. and i hope she writes like this again because this story is shupe at her best. 4/5
