This is one of those books that if I had read it when it came out (when I was a teenager) I think I would have been absolutely obsessed! That being said this is a super quick read and I really enjoyed my time reading it. It's super fun and dystopian just like everything was in 2012 but thats probably why I loved it so much.

okay so... my third reread and I’m sad to say it decrease a star.

only bcs I didn’t like the exposition in the beginning. but then the story keep going and it was so good. I can’t put it down. but somehow it was hard for me to pick up. maybe bcs of the annotation.

but I’m so sad it’s not as good. and I feel bad if I were to taint my 5 stars memories of this book with a 4 stars.

but I still enjoy the beginning of their love story. I feel I’ll always enjoy it. this used to be my fav out of the series cause there’s barely any Aspen involved. but idk- it feels different.

It doesn’t feel like I’m truly in the story. not like the first time. nor the second. but I love it tho. With my whole heart.

The way I flew through this book even though it’s a reread!! I desperately need Maxon’s POV

*spoilers* All the book groups I’m in have nothing hut good things to say about this book. Honestly, it’s not bad, I was invested enough that when I couldn’t sleep last night I stayed up and finished it.

America pissed me off and the end of the book. I’m sorry, it had to be said. I understand that she’s in this unfamiliar place and trying to survive what is essential a dystopian version of ‘The Bachelor’ while also being heartbroken. She’s unique compared to the other girls, she initially does not want to be there but strikes up a friendship with Prince Maxon. She’s fiercely independent and is trying not to lose herself in the chaos of becoming part of the Selection. But she also annoyed me. She spent all this time heartbroken because of Aspen, then he’s suddenly there, and she acts like he didn’t break her heart before she left. Girl, bye.

Don’t get me started on Aspen, he’s the reason she’s part of the Selection in the first place. He didn’t fight for her when the situation was different and they were sneaking around because they ‘love’ each other. Now he now wants to fight for her, now that their lives are different and they’ll not have to go back to the lives they had before. America was perfectly happy to be with Apsen no matter their castes and he threw it all away for the sake of his own pride and his masculinity. Annoyed. I was annoyed.

Prince Maxon, well, I really liked him. He’s intrigued by America from the moment that they meet. With each interaction he has with he endears me to him. His care for others. His action in the face of the truth. His innocence and inexperience and shyness at first. His honesty and determination. He adores America just the way she is. He’s being pulled in all different directions where his search for a wife is concerned but he really only wants America.

That being said, I didn’t love the book. I was invested so I finished it but I ended the book very annoyed with America, with Aspen, but not with Maxon.
