I might be the only person on the planet that did not have problems with the first book in this series, so take my judgement for what it is worth. With that said, I liked this book a whole heaping lot more. I really really enjoyed Eli with all of his issues, sarcastic humor and his neediness while trying to remain independent. I think the only person who could fit him is someone like Quinn. Quinn has enough issues as we see in the beginning of this book, his boyfriend Peter, of which they have been together for 10 years is a lying sack of horse shit cheater. So needless to say, both Quinn and Eli have hurdles to deal with through this book.

As always, I could have had more. The sex between Quinn and Eli is smokin hot, there is even spanking and the use of the term 'Daddy'. Quinn has been saying yes to everything that is Peter's family since that asshole left him, even standing up in his wedding and being godfather to his baby. Peter's family has been lounging along the Denile river for 10 years and things start to heat up as Quinn brings Eli into the family fold. Good times - could have used more of those!

Polar opposites, and just when you think that you're never going to find the one that's right for you.

I hate using names, because I like to identify with the character and exactly how I understand their attitudes. Eli and Quinn. Eli is fully out and flaming gay, while Quinn is so reserved he eats in the closet, he doesn't want to hide, but I really hate that ex boyfriend that he had. Peter is so despicable a person. Living organism. Piece of shit. Whatever. I understand Eli and Quinn weren't together that long but this really opened me up to seeing Eli in a new light. I wanted more of him from the first book and I preferred this one better.

The circumstances that lead to Eli and Quinn meeting each other are certainly unique. Quinn's boyfriend of ten years, Peter, revealed that he'd not only been cheating on Quinn but is off to marry his pregnant girlfriend. Quinn is expected to stay around and play the supportive best friend role, but can only take so much. So it seems ingenious to bring Eli--a younger, wilder seeming guy--as his date to the baby's baptism. He succeeds in making Peter jealous, but also opens a whole series of other doors when Eli puts on more of a show than expected and leaves everyone convinced the two of them are a real item.

I felt like this was on par with the first book in the series, really. Obviously there's a bit of drama and hefty helpings of angst, though the characters certainly power through. I found myself horribly annoyed with Peter (of course), though there were several times I found myself frustrated with both Eli and Quinn, too. This is definitely one of those books that will leave you yelling 'NO! STOP! WHY?' to the characters as you turn the pages.
