this book was so nostalgic and beautiful.
i just recently watched the movie in theatres, and it was so nice to read the book for the first time!
i’ve always loved the film, since childhood, and it was so surreal to have it in the flesh.
i do wish that it had been written in a more adult fashion, it took me a bit to get used to, but overall: it was fantastic.
i enjoyed pinpointing the differences between it and the film, getting more detail of coraline’s thoughts and behaviors, and just owning the book in general.
highly highly recommend!!!!

i do think the film was a bit more creative and colorful, but i suppose it’s because the book is so short, they had to elongate and really bring it to life.

I love the vibe of this book.  The horror setting and plot were done really well.  While it’s not as creepy as the film it definitely lives up to its hype.  This is one of the few books where the movie is a good representation of the book.

I adore this book. We are afraid of so much as kids, but this book is one of the rare ones that keeps that fear in adults. The other mother is so wonderfully creepy, but I think the whole setting is what really sets it apart. Coraline has gone from the safety of her home, to the ‘safety’ of ‘her’ home. We see that Coraline has just moved to her new house, which makes sense plot wise, but also to show that everything is new and unfamiliar. I love the mice as well, wish we saw more of them :)

I love the super in-depth descriptions in this book. I’ve seen stuff about it, but they really meant it. I totally agree that the movie could’ve been creepier. I LOVE the idea of the portal being this just old and ancient being rather than like an amusement park ride. Really cool read, I enjoyed it.

A longtime fan of the stop motion movie, this book didn’t disappoint. I loved Coraline’s character and even in the book she comes off as brave and strong. I enjoyed the Beldam and the afterworld!! Especially the door and the way through it, something about it just screams mysterious. It reminds me kind of like  HP Lovecraft when he says we can’t really even describe/think about Chthulu because it is too complex to think about. The other world is something complex that we can’t even grasp and that what makes it perfect. It’s a simple read but the small details make it extra creepy! It’s perfect for a little kid and good for an adult because you pick up on the details. Really good book and really fast read.

Oh, my twitchy witchy girl!

Coraline the novel was sincerely the best set up for the film. The book in my opinion is even creepier than the movie, and I love it. It has so much character and charm.

Such a scary children’s story that has captivated me since the movie released back in 2009. There’s really nothing like it.

this was my second read and definitely not my last! Every time I read it, I can see/hear the film play in my head.
