I really didn't enjoy this book at all. The characters were not fleshed out very well and the whole thing seemed very contrived. A complete waste of my time.

I really enjoyed the book and liked how it was so different from a lot of books out today. My only issue was that the end felt a bit abrupt. I would have liked to hear from Charlie one more time and see what happened with Jenny!

16+. Sad but gripping tale of a young girl trying to come to grips with the loss of her mother and the effect it's had on herself and her father, while her neighbourhood friend has demons of his own to deal with. No happy endings except confronting one's fears and allowing honesty to prevail.

Excellent book. Many quotable lines. Highly recommend to high school students, teachers, and administrators. Very insightful.

Really enjoyed this book - I loved the many different POVs you get (even the random town landmark gets its 2 cents in) and even though it is a very bittersweet story, I loved where all the characters ended up. I don't know what comes next for Vera and her dad, but I like to think it gets better from there. Not easy necessarily, but better.

I would not have picked this up on my own, I got it in the Book Riot quarterly box, and I'm so glad I did. I love the characters, I love the way the story is told. At first I thought the sections where the dead kid, the pagoda and Vera's dad talk wouldn't work, but they did and added to the awesome writing style in the book. The characters are so real, this could happen. The emotions are palpable. This is a book that will stick with me quite awhile.
This is me using love in a sentences - over and over again.
