This was better than book 6, but not by much (and a lot better than book 5). This takes place in Canada over the course of about a week. I was irritated with Temperance and Andrew through most of the book and it kept switching who I was most irritated with; but I think it was her. How is she that smart but always making such horrible decisions! Yet again she is in mortal danger because of her own actions, which could have been resolved if she just talked to Andrew.
I get she was mad at him because she thought he was cheating, and it's his fault for not telling her from the start what was going on, but she could have told him where she was going. And she not only put herself in danger, but her friend too! Him having a surprise daughter was unexpected, but he could have said something earlier than he did. Now, for the case. I was NOT prepared for stolen identities, kidnapped and tortured girls, and reverse Stockholm Syndrome. This was a lot, and these are crime books and this was still a lot.
It's going to take a while to recover from this story. But the past two have been much better and have me interested in the series again.

we are so back.
and by “we”, i mean, luc claudel.
a big chunk of my personality was shaped by this series. through kathy reichs, i rediscovered my love for the french language—fell in love with canada as a whole, and quebec in particular. needless to mention, the stories that take place here—whenever temperance commutes from charlotte for work—are my favorites. especially because i get to see claudel. sue me.
now that i'm really back into the thick of it, i can admit that my relationship with andrew ryan is more odi et amo than anything. i love him to bits, don't get me wrong, but the man can be annoying at times. and his romance with tempe, in this book especially, pissed me off quite a bit... when will the two of them learn to talk—communicate—like the grown adults they indeed are?
claudel, on the other hand, is everything to me. i love, love, love his dynamic with tempe—the way he ends up, every single time and without fail, protecting here. it makes my heart go whoosh.

I get sick of the formulaic nature of these books, but sometimes a nice easy murder mystery is what you're in the mood for.

Wow what an action packed book almost too bad to be true (as in fatalities and everything) not my fave but still good for the queen of death

LOVED this book. It definitely had a slow start. But I really hit a roll about 30 pages in. BONES is one of my favorite shows and it is interesting to see how the books compare. This is a great book is you love crime/thriller novels!
