I loved HALF-BLOOD so when I saw that Jennifer had another book coming out I went to check it out. I wasn't quite sure what I would think of the book but from my previous experience with not jumping on HALF-BLOOD when it first got here then kicking myself later for not reading it sooner I knew I should read OBSIDIAN no matter what. I was not disappointing.

Katy and her Mom move from Florida to West Virginia to get a new start after her father died. She wasn't very excited to be there but decided she would give the neighbor kids a shot and introduce herself. So imagine her surprise when a super hot guy answers the door and he proceeds to be a complete and udder @ss to her. Thankfully his sister Dee who she meets later is really nice and they hit it off. She doesn't understand why Daemon and his friends hate her so much but she is determined to keep Dee as her friend.

I LOVED that Katy is a blogger, I thought it was super fun to read about her blog posts and her geeking out with her in the mail videos. It made me laugh to hear her talk about her blog and how she missed it when she couldn't get one of her posts up. Katy was really easy to like. She is really independent and did a great job of sticking up for herself when all she wanted to do at some points is break down. No matter how much of a jerk Daemon was he was also a strong likable character. You get to know him even through his mood swings and get to see how protective and loving he is int he way he treats his sister. The romantic tension between Daemon and Katy made me laugh and cry at times. The emotions all around were real and high. I cant wait for more development on their relationship.

The storyline was really unique and exciting. I loved learning about Daemon and Dee and who they really were. The whole idea of them was imaginative and well explained. I'm really excited to learn more about them and their future. There was nothing about OBSIDIAN that I didn't like. I would recommend that you go buy it and read it now but be warned that you will be dying to get your hands on book 2.

It really wasn't too bad. I like the plot but it almost felt slow. I think this book deserves for me to read the second one maybe it will be better.

Edit 9/28/13: Yeah, I reduced the rating to four stars, but I still love this book! It's just that well, now to earn 5 stars from me the book better be a masterpiece! Obsidian is more like an addicting, fun, and pure awesome read, but not quite a masterpiece. Now, read the review below to hear about the awesomness of Obsidian

Okay, I am probably like the last person on earth to read this book. (Maybe I am exaggerating a bit, only a tiny, tiny bit though.) But this book was, like, the book, ( \if you didn't know this yet you and I should be buddies! I had no idea either for a long time!) a year or so ago according to a lot of blogs and people! I hadn't really given it much thought until a month ago when I started seeing the raving reviews.

Well... I read it and... Wow... seriously Jennifer L Armentrout, you are absolutely amazing! I have read Halfblood by JLA, and really liked it, but Obsidian soared sooooo high! (Although I just finished reading Pure by Jennifer L Armentrout and now Obsidian has a worthy rival! My review for Pure is forthcoming...) Anyway, this book was out-of-this-world! I especially reccomend it to book bloggers because we can all relate to the main character, who is also a book blogger! JLA does know her audience!

The first step to creating a good book is to create characters that provoke emotions. Er, I think the author scored like a 10000 out of 10 on that one! I know that isn't supposed to be possible since it is out of 10, but the characters were so awesome! From bookish Katy, Sweet Dee, dislikable Ash, to Daemon, who can make me want to burst out laughing, blush, or hit him with a large, very heavy, frying pan (and hopefully send him to the hospital)!

Oh. I am doing a post. Sorry, just to let you know I have been sitting in front of my halfway done post, with Obsidian in my hand, rereading it when I should be finishing this post. This would be a good spot to mention it is dangerously addictive! Yeah, don't start it at night or say goodbye to your chance of sleep!

The whole Alien theme is really awesome! The topic is not awkward at all, JLA explains the aliens beautifully and so well you stop thinking of them as fiction! Aliens just flow right into the story with no bumps or breaks, like they belong!

Also, this is one book that will have you laughing, a lot! One of many favorite quotes:

“Swimming was the last thing I wanted to do. Drowning him? Maybe.”

To wrap this up, I recommend you read this like, maybe, right now! I also highly recommend the author! Oh, and, thank the heavens, this is a series!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I expected it to be COMPLETELY fluff and for me to have anger issues towards the MC. Basically I was kind of prepared for it to be a Twilight ripoff. It's not. As a matter of fact it's rather good. And I found myself really digging Katy as a female lead.

Very generic, but I liked it a lot. It would be nice if she explored her world more deeply in the next books.
