This one took me awhile to get through but loved it. Such a beautiful story about family. Tbh the chapters are so long so would recommend if that’s a turn off

I really liked Little Fires Everywhere but I lowkey liked this one more. I always love a good family drama, and this essentially just captures how a family deals with grief and with the unknown. It's not a murder mystery or detective story where they're trying to figure out how she died, but more of a tracing of how each person feels like they didn't know Lydia well enough and their regrets throughout their life. I really loved how it also focused on the parent's story which just added that extra layer to really pull us into the fabric of their family and what it was like to deal with racism/xenophobia, however subtle. I feel like this captured grief and loss between siblings really well, and I think about this so often. Like Little Fires Everywhere, the last few lines just completed gutted me:

“When a long, long time later, he stares down at the silent blue marble of the earth and thinks of his sister, as he will at every important moment of his life. He doesn't know this yet, but he senses it deep down in his core. So much will happen, he thinks, that I would want to tell you.”

This was hard to get through. The characters were so unlikable and nobody wanted to communicate at all making it very frustrating. These characters were so stupid, the absolute worst. The POVs would change way too often as well. Some terrible takes on this book which made me roll my eyes. Also using Charlottesville as a point of reference when I think that doesn’t really make any sense, like Celeste just went on google maps. Not a fan

Everything I Never Told You is a book about a Chinese-American family in the 1970s that tragically lose their eldest daughter when she drowns in the local lake. We don't find out exactly what happened to cause their daughter Lydia to have drowned until towards the end but instead we go on a journey between past and present with the family, discovering all of their drama and secrets and watching them fall apart and questioning if they can come back together again. It is very moving and takes us through so many emotions as a reader. I really recommend this book!💙
