Too much body horror and political intrigue.

I think I just need to read it when I'm in a different headspace.

Having read a handful of other interpretations of the Mahabharata, I was curious to see what the story might be like as an epic fantasy series.

While I definitely think the bones of the story are solid, I never actually connected to any of the characters. I never cared to know what they wanted or why, and a lot of scenes that could have been short glimpses felt like drawn out examinations, so the pacing was incredibly slow.

A vast epic novel, I really enjoyed the characters, could really feel the voices and felt them all individually. The biggest flaw only reason it’s not 5 stars is the scope of the epic at times causes the charm to lose sight of itself and can take away from what is otherwise excellent development.

I honestly don't even know where to begin with this book. I understand a bunch of the three star ratings that this has.

It took me literally 200 pages to get invested into this. A VERY slow start to the book, but let me tell you...WORTH IT. With all the POVS at the beginning it was a lot to take in. Around the 300 page mark it all starts clicking together in the best ways.

There are parts in this book that are down right disturbing, made me physically cringe and put down the book but it was a solid story. I will be reading book 2.
