I read Being Lolita immediately after my second read of My Dark Vanessa. There is so much overlap between the two abusive relationships; although one is fictional, it is a sad tale we see over and over again. Wood knows how to cut the reader deep, and I found myself having to take breaks after each chapter once the relationship is in full swing. The same point I see driven home again and again in these stories: you were so much younger than you thought you were. I look back now at my own high school photos and am startled at how baby faced I was, when I thought of myself as mature and powerful. Thank you Alisson Wood, for sharing your experiences, for working to make the world safer for the girls who came after you.

incredibly powerful memoir. i was surprised and shocked to see a lot of people call alisson wood a drama queen and someone, i quote „appropriating an experience“ to which i want to say - what is wrong with you? like genuinely.
