I'm eating these little novellas up to stave off this reading slump. Thank goodness Nalini writes so much.

Set before 'Slave to Sensation,' this story is a sweet addition to the series and offers insightful background for those familiar with the world created by Singh. Exploring human/changeling relations and Ria's family dynamics adds an enjoyable and lighthearted layer to the story.

I felt like this one was really hampered by the heroine's family and the whole "she has a fiance" thing - I mean, they are supposed to be normal humans, and yet they're telling everyone she is engaged to a family friend she's not particularly interested in, and are surprised and outraged when it turns out that (a) the guy is a patronizing jerk and (b) he has a "mistress" (i.e. girlfriend) and (c) his parents (who are close friends of the heroine's parents) have an open marriage. (We're told that the husband cheats on the wife, but we're also told that the wife doesn't care, so I'm not going to be judgy.) Like, is that really how normal human families (or friendships) work? Because... not so much in my experience. The suspense plotline was also kind of shoddy, like, okay, fine, whatever it takes to get these two together, I guess.

This was still cute, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first read.

I started this probably six months ago. I just finished it today. And it's a less than 100 pages novella. If that doesn't tell you how bad of a reading slump I've got these past few months, I don't know what will.
Bookwise, I liked it. The actual books are way better though. If you, somehow, haven't read them yet. Go. Read them. Seriously.

Another great short story. I really liked to get to know Emmett and Ria, even though they are not between my favourites.

Definitely recommended to all fans of the series
