This book deserves some trigger warnings, namely suicide, postpartum depression, and child abuse.

These things obviously put a sad undercurrent through the book. The great thing about previous books in this series are how light and funny they were. This one had some more serious content.

Ugh. I so wanted to like it because I like Eloise in the Bridgerton Series.

Sir Philip is the last man whom Eloise would ever marry.

A man who constantly talks about needing someone to have sex with and to mother his children. Really?!

this book was so terrible. i truly believe that eloise would have more chemistry with a WALL than with sir phillip!!!! she literally had to convince herself to fall in love with him??? that is not the bridgerton way!!! i hope shonda rhimes can fix eloise’s story because if it is anything like this i will not watch it. some characters are just meant to be lesbians julia quinn…. to add to that sir phillip is the most repulsive male character i have ever read the story of. he kept telling eloise that she would never understand what his life was like after he just told her in detail what it was like?? i think she can understand SOME!!! but he continually dismissed her empathy instead (a very bad look if you ask me). NOT TO MENTION this man KEPT on about how he only married her to have a mother to his children (women should not be reduced to mothers ESPECIALLY in their own romantic tale)!!! ALONG with the mother debacle… he just wanted to have sex with her the entire time because HE hasn’t had sex in eight years and it turned into their intimate lives being all about him (disgusting-also, not how it should work). they were doomed from the start when he wanted to marry him not even a year after his wife’s death. ALSO the timeline is so poorly done in this book it’s like everything was being made up along the way and changed every so often that i couldn’t keep up. additionally, eloise turned down so many marriage offers and i know she would’ve done the same to sir phillip if given a chance. the only nice part of this book was that eloise named her daughter after her best friend, penelope.
