I was warned before-hand that the detail can at some points be rather drawn out and although I found myself dozing off amidst a long description of second breakfast, it was probably because I couldn't put it down late into the night. One of the all-time best adventure novels with unforgettable characters... mmm Legolas. Oh, and Aragorn. Mmmm.

I really loved this first installment in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I personally, at times, had difficulty picturing the various landscapes but I blame this on my imagination having fallen to the wayside over the last few years. I plan to read the final two installments over summer break! Tolkien writes a beautiful story. I love Sam Gamgee.

This exceeded my expectations in how much I enjoyed the writing and flow, and that world-building. Gorgeous.
