I really disliked this book. The last 50 pages were all that was good.

prefacing this with the fact that i wanna give this a 3.5! good book! sylvia plath’s prose isn’t as strong here as in her poetry for sure, but i still really enjoyed it and found lots of nice quotes. esther is very interesting as a character and while i disagree with her in a lot of ways it was very interesting to watch her descend into madness like this, i thought that she felt very authentically female as a character and i appreciated that but she wasn’t super gripping and i wasn’t really rooting for her completely. i really enjoy the way plath characterized and described esther’s state of mind and everything around her!
