If Percy Jackson and Twilight series had a baby it would be this book.

3.5 stars. I love the take on Greek tragedies- bloodlust, revenge, balance..oh the dramas have always been my favorite study. And similarly, the familiar tragic flaws are just as frustrating and predictable.

The not so goods? Helen and Lucas- there's the common love you-kill you-mortal enemies-soulmate thing but they aren't a convincing "extraordinary" love affair. Helen lives with her dad and is the introverted unassuming hot thing of the island. Lucas, demigod that he is, has this wonderfully perfect family- the story and setting seems too familiar...insert names "Edward and Bella".

Goods- I did enjoy the writing. It's a very clever story telling. I thought everything about the Furies, the Houses, the Hundred, the Face- it was all fantastic and intriguing. Fun read overall!

Starcrossed is amazing!!!! This book is so fun and hilarious I literally laughed out loud on occasion(my parents now thing I'm crazy, but that's okay because it's probably true). Helen is so wonderful. She's funny and sweet and her own kind of bad-ass. I just, I can't. Really all of Josephine Angelini's characters are great and hilarious. All of them. Giggles(Claire), Lucas, Jason, Jerry, Hector, all of them.

Moving on... I really enjoyed this book because, unlike most books it wasn't love (or lust) at first sight. It was pure, unadulterated rage. I also really liked how you were just as confused as Helen and Helen's reaction towards it. At first she's just tries her hardest to stay away from the Delos family(because she's a genuinely good person) but after she runs into them on multiple occasions and still has no idea/isn't told what's going on she snaps in her Helen way. It is also really cool how even though Helen and Lucas hate each other they are drawn towards each other, specifically, and how they each feel the strongest amount of hatred for each other. Its like no matter what they are feeling towards each other it is always the strongest that they feel that emotion.

NEXT! OMG JUST THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT GO ON!!!! THEY ARE SO FANTASTIC !!!!! Okay I'm going to start with the easy one: Helen and Jerry. Their relationship is so CUTE!!!!!! Because even though Jerry is the parent they seem to switch off and Jerry is so sweet and adorably funny and loves Helen so much!!!!! Now Helen and Claire. Let me just take this moment to say that Giggles is the bestest best friend to ever exist. She is small and smart but sarcastic and totally blunt. She makes my day. Gig is Helen's perfect counterpart: sarcastic and open to her timid niceness and petite and adorable to Helen's tall, gorgeousness. Hector, Hector, Hector, Hector. He is just an amazing guy, really, I can't describe him. Just trust me on this one when I say he is an awesome character. Last...Lucas. Oooooohhhhhh, Lucas. I think I'll let Helen describe him, since I think she does it best. "She decided that if Lucas was gay then she was going to have a sex change operation. He would be so worth it." The complete and utter truth.

This book haunts me. Its one of those that look at me every time I walk by my shelf and says,"When are you going to pick me up and open me again? I will sit here waiting for you until you do. Please come soon," with big sad puppy dog eyes that break my heart to walk away from. I'm usually not strong enough to walk away though......Okay so you know that annoying thing where during the first like 150 pages of a paperback book the pages wont stay open unless you're holding them down? Yeah, I've read this book so many times I only have that problem with the first 70.....Its a really, really good book...... READ IT.......
*walks away before I die*

Reading this book brought back so much nostalgia! Josephine Angelini does a great job of showing Helen Hamilton's perspective. The plot of the book makes you want to read quickly, while the character development either makes you fall in love with some characters or at least appreciate their complexity looking at you, Daphne Atreus .

I enjoyed reading and rereading this book in high school, and I believe that I read and reread the first book in this trilogy at least 10 times. If you like Greek myths, developed and developing characters and an enemies to lovers trope, given that Helen tried to kill Lucas , then you'll enjoy this read!

I was so disappointed with this book. My friends told me that it was great and I saw a lot of people here on goodreads giving it 4 and 5 stars so I thought that it would be great. But hey, I shouldn't have been so surprised because I see a lot of 1 and 2 stars as well. I guess that you either love or hate this book.
The beginning was really interesting. That instant hatred and trying to kill each other situation was great but then the author doesn't know how to develop things correctly.
Angelini should, at least, have created a little bit of story between that instant hatred and the Romeo and Juliet type of love between the protagonists.
The way it is, I don't really feel the connection between Helen and Lucas. Everything was so quick! :S
To tell the truth, I don't really connect myself with the characters.
Sure, Lucas is sweet but he is not that hero that sweeps me off my feet. And Helen is not the heroine that I love and admire.
Furthermore, huge parts of the book were boring and only because the information in it was incredibly obvious.
For example, it was obvious that there was some connection between Helen and Lucas and Helen Of Troy and Paris. Also, it was obvious that Helen's house was connected to Aphrodite.
Apart from that, it was tiresome that Helen was all that high and mighty and powerful blab bla bla but then she was always getting her ass kicked. She had all those amazing powers and stuff but all of that was wasted in a wuss such as her. She didn’t even know how to get a good punch.
*sigh* Whatever...

What if history is destined to repeat? In this tale of demigods and fates, the descendants of those who fought in the Trojan War have been fighting and falling in love over and over again. Angelini interweaves Greek mythology and modern society to tell the story of starcrossed lovers, and a world that may be fated to start another Trojan War. This was a good light read. It doesn't require a whole lot of thinking on the part of the reader. It's definitely not profound. It's just fun. And sometimes that's exactly what you need in a book.

2.5 stars? twilight meets the greek myths when a large family of mysterious good-looking teenagers move to nantucket. helen, a drop dead gorgeous local teen who likes to fly under the radar, is seized with a frighteningly powerful urge to kill one of the new students, lucas, as soon as she lays eyes on him. she is also haunted by three moaning old ladies and begins to have strange nightmares. what is it that connects her to the delos family, and who is the person who keeps trying to kidnap her?

the writing is mediocre at best, but the story was exciting and i did enjoy reading it on the beach. unfortunately it was essentially twilight retold with greek gods instead of vampires. it was also overly long & complicated. i don't think i'll read the next one in the series, but i will definitely recommend this to bella & edward fanatics.

Schnulziger Fehlgriff! Die 2 Sterne gibt's nur für die Idee und dafür, dass der Schreibstil nach dem ersten Drittel besser wird. Ich bin zu alt für sowas...
