This is am quite awful... from the premise on the back it misleads you into thinking it’s going to be something like Shirley Jackson the haunting of hill house... but it’s not. It’s just a god awful mess. The main character is an absolute idiot, drunk and plain bitch sorry but I have no sympathy for her and the supernatural elements are so bloody laughable it’s a joke and not creepy at all. Her guilt is a bit unbelievable and just trite all in all this whole story is a mess and a waste of my time. The person who I feel sorry for is the guy that should be the villain but I have more empathy and sympathy for him than whatever she is. Utter rubbish

What I was expecting: Paranormal romance/mystery.

What I got: BDSM, a food writer who never seemed to have an appetite or finish her food and instead survived on only wine, a cat named after a cannibal.

This was an interesting read that certainly tested my ability to read “ghost stories.” It was an interesting plot and well written. These type of themes, however, are not my preference.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thought the story could've done without the BDSM. I did enjoy the plot and the descriptions of all the food. Wanted to read more imagery of Tucker Cove.

I regretfully give this book a much lower rating than I would have liked. I absolutely loved the setting, and the way the author describes it is excellent. You really can envision the house, the turret, the sea, the cliffs. I almost felt as if I could smell the sea, the way it was described. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the story. The main character alludes to a secret throughout almost the entire book (I think the full story, like all 5 pages of it, comes out at around 85%). By the time we get the whole story, there has been such a buildup that it seems like such a letdown. Most readers will likely already know what happened by the time they get to that part anyway, as it's not a huge leap from the clues dropped throughout the story.

Again, another thing that kept me turning pages was the history about the house (and ghost) as Ava started digging into it. At this point, I expected them to uncover murders spanning centuries. Multiple reports of paranormal activity at the house. I don't want to spoil any of the bigger details here, but lets just say I was underwhelmed. The whole ending just felt very anti climactic to me. A sad departure from the high hopes I had at the beginning.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the atmospheric descriptions, especially in the beginning of the book - very spooky, very well done! Also, love the cat :)

What I didn‘t enjoy:
- The main character is extremely unlikeable and I disagree with so many of her choices.
- I was missing some information on why exactly the hauntings happen, and why women with certain visual similarities are drawn in. What‘s the point of this whole thing? When will it stop?
- While generally well done and plausible, the setup of who the murderer is was pretty obvious almost from the start. Would‘ve loved to have some more mystery.

2.5/5 rounded to 3 stars. 50 shades of ghost. Easy and quick read that’s a bit ridiculous at times, but entertaining.
