This book was ok. I’m probably not the intended audience but It was a cute high school romance regardless. The big “fight” over the white lie was flimsy but being highschoolers I wasn’t surprised. There were some writing choices that made me cringe. Any time there was mention of Jagger’s physical attraction to Roxanne it made me feel like I was a pedophile. In addition the random POV changes from minor characters was meaningless. It was a cute break between thick novels but that’s it.

My god did this feel dated. Was this originally on Wattpad? It really wouldn't surprise me.

Honestly, this wasn't fully bad, but it was certainly never great. A lot of the lingo was incorrect, the characters were lame and fake-deep, and it all just felt very childish. Plus, don't even get me started on that ending. While I understand that there's a sequel, that's no excuse for not properly wrapping up this book, especially considering the next one is set in their 20s (they're 17 now). I think it's obvious I won't be reading that one.

I don't even know why I read this book, but I did. It was free on Amazon, so I guess I can't complain too much about the grammar errors and the many, many different point of views.

Spoilers ahead.

This book was such a cute idea until I realized I was reading about two high schoolers who are suddenly in love after dating for 2 weeks and they break up over a little white lie. Then everyone in their inner circle goes extremely out of the way to bring these two back... only for the book to suddenly end.

This book is super hilarious, and the music refrences make me want to pull up spotify and disappear in them for awhile. The love story is not mean or vindictive and they love eachother in a way that makes a hallmark movie sound childish. My only priblem is that this book is long. Ok 216 pages isn't long but it felt like it. There were a lot of parts I got bored. But overall the back and forth POV makes this an amazing kindle read.

In 3 words: Spicy, Teen-angst, Romantic
I made a spotify playlist of all the songs mentioned (or most of them), there are some very nostalgic choices on here, loved it! This book personifies teen angst at its best. It really brought me back to the 80s love ballads and 90s emo songs. It had a "Say Anything" movie kind of feel. While categorized a YA romance, I'd say it was definitely Pg-13. I would have let my high school teenagers read it, but I'm pretty liberal with my parental guidance. She wrote a sequel, which I probably won't read. They apparently break up as they venture forth to different universities, so she wrote a book about them reuniting in their 20s, using all the same characters.

Roxxy and Jag are two high schoolers who seem like polar opposites. They apparently have nothing in common, until Jag sends Roxxy a friend request on Instagram and they find they share an eclectic taste for music. Cute, awkward flirting ensues, inevitably leading to high school romance. But they’re both carrying secrets close to their chests. What happens when they’re revealed?

This was like a cute Netflix rom-com, ripe with cheesy one-liners and ridiculously over-the-top drama that comes with the genre. I easily laughed at some of the more serious moments, especially when 17-year-old girls call their boyfriends their “man.” I’m a high school teacher and that just cracked me up! There are a lot of endearing moments, though, and showed the ups and downs of puppy love. It was exactly what I needed for a quick, easy-to-read book binge.

Note: some profanity is sprinkled throughout the book. A few uses of s***, d**n, and f***.

SPOILER: One of the heavier moments include discussing rape, but it was done delicately and respectfully.

Ok, I thought this book had promise, it sounded good and there’s a lot of positive reviews on it. But I’m kind of a hater/lover.
I thought the beginning was adorable. It’s a cute idea to have them connect through music but I had to stop myself because he was in love with this girl only after one day of speaking to her face to face. I tried to push past that, they’re 17, teenagers are dumb and young and in love every few weeks.
But then the “fight” made me angry. This girl is dramatic, she needs to grow up, and go to therapy for her mommy issues. Other than that ridiculous drama it was cute. The way she “apologized” was adorable.

I really really liked this book! I was expecting to enjoy it, it’s what I like to read after all, what I wasn’t expecting was to be sucked in and only stop because I had. I still read it in an afternoon. So very compelling.

I really liked that the side characters were funny and actually had backstory too. Also the talking about the existence of nuns because no one talks about them anymore.

There were only two things I wasn’t a fan of. First, the feminist undertones of the girl doing exactly what the boy did for her before in order to redeem herself and show him she loved him. I mean, it just felt really cringe for her to carry his books at school and things like that. However, it didn’t take from the enjoyment of the rest of the things.

It also rubbed me the wrong way that the author used the expression “friending” when talking about Instagram. We all know it’s following that should be used.

Also, if we are discussing the friend or follower thing, it means this book is actually very very good!
