I just really wasn't feeling it. At some point I might come back to it and the series, but I think it's time to admit I'm not "currently reading" this anymore.

The 2nd book in the Captain Altavista series, a fun read, but I did not enjoy it as much as the 1st adventure.

Entertaining, compelling, with memorable characters.

And here's a bit of rant on a personal pet peeve: I am tired of the notion that a man (or boy) can be "helpless" when charmed by a beautiful woman. Her beauty is more important than her obviously rotten core, so he can't help being in love with her forever. I suppose that's supposed to be one of *his* flaws, and I guess that's not necessarily unrealistic. But I can't enjoy reading about it.

Este libro me gustó mucho más que el anterior, una vez que se empiezan a meter con los temas políticos/religiosos (hay que reconocer que en esa época eran casi lo mismo) la historia de Alatriste mejora mucho.

Son libros que se leen super rápido, si el resto de esta saga sigue con esta calidad se me van a pasar volando.

Not quite as engaging as the first book in the series. The plot is just as dour, but lacks the grand significance. The Inquisition is involved but never at risk of being affected. And the narrator is getting annoying with his constant vague references to what came before and what will eventually happen later in his own life. He's not half as interesting as his master. The convoluted local politics required more of a refresher course than was given; we're not all reading the series without pause. Swashbuckling action sequences remain well done and the culture is vivid, if tragic.

Me encantó. Hay que decir que los personajes son eternos, participando en la historia cuando son necesarios, y permaneciendo hasta el final, aún cuando no tienen más diálogos. Es decir, aunque haya terminado de leer esta historia, siento que ella sigue ocurriendo, que el capitán se está yendo a casa y que los demás, de igual modo, siguen su vida, sin daros más detalles para que no hayan "spoilers".
Me gustó mucho más que el primer libro, aunque lo haya leído hace tiempo, y quizás leyendolo ahora me gustaría igual que este. Pero este lo recomiendo sin duda.
Qué disfrutais de este libro y de todos los demás que leáis.

Segunda entrega de las aventuras de nuestro capitán (que no era capitán, sino cabo de escuadra, pero le respetaban tanto sus hombres que así lo llamaban) favorito. Aquí Reverte pinta un fresco con muchas escenas: los tercios lejanos en Flandes, el crimen detectivesco que hay que resolver lo antes posible, y los malos malísimos que maniobran en la distancia, y no tan en la distancia, como parte de un arco mayor. Las descripciones de madrid, las escenas, los diálogos, todo está cuidadísimo, y lo he disfrutado como un gran libro de aventuras, con trasfondo filosófico y cansado, al estilo Reverte.

No seré yo quien juzgue nada escrito por Pérez-Reverte, con lo pequeñita que una es. Solo puedo decir que las aventuras de Alatriste me tocan por la relación que tengo con Flandes y Holanda. Y a cada uno le gusta lo que le gusta.
