2nd read: 20-21 March 2024
chloe liese remains the undefeated queen of wholesome, heartfelt romances and i am so ready to love the bergman brothers all over again (rereading as the last book is out in a month and i need to rekindle my passion for this series before that)

you can pry my sunday-evening-reading-in-a-four-hour-fever-whatever-romance-catches-my-eyes habit from my cold, dead hands

I might have a new favorite author!!! Second book in the series that I’ve read, and it’s really near perfect.

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Willa is a strong female with a lot of sass and snarky attitude. But my heart goes to Ryder, sweet lumberjack, so calmed, down-to-earth and romantic in his own way.
Professor McCormack is also one of my faves of this book, along with Willa's mother.
A lot of sexual tension between the main characters and it gets a little steamy at the end

*Reminds self to carefully vet the book blurb for trope dealbreakers. *

It's me. I'm officially tired of contemporary romances that highlight a tragedy/disability/injustice and spend more time on the issue(s) than on the relationship. Ryder's hearing loss, Willa's mom's terminal illness, or the inequality struggles of female athletes would have been enough on their own, but throwing all of that into one book just made me tired. So tired that when I clicked over to check out some reviews and found out there was MORE ANGST TO COME, I just went ahead and DNF'd this one.

And I'm also tired of present tense narration and jumping back and forth from different characters' first-person points of view. Can we trend back to third-person and past tense?

I should have vetted more carefully to realize this is a college-age/New Adult book. Been there, done, that, don't want to relive it. Give me Established Adults, please.
